The British-born, New York-based artist is best known for his ‘solid-light’ installations, a series of projections that emphasise the sculptural qualities of light. In darkened, hazy rooms, the projections create illusions of three dimensional shapes, ellipses and waves. The installations remove the traditional boundaries between film and viewer, with audiences becoming participants.
Having taken a brief hiatus from the art world to found a successful graphic design studio, McCall returned to art in the 2000s, inspired by the development of the haze machine and developments in digital technology. The exhibition will be the UK premiere of three new ‘solid light’ installations.
