In a season where we’re at the mercy of ever-changing and sometimes dramatic elements, there’s beauty to be found in the winter weather. We’re using this to our advantage and channeling the infamous British winter weather in our new collection, drawing subtly on the elements at play through colour, print and texture.

With that in mind, staying warm this winter doesn’t have to be at the expense of your style. Take advantage of cold-weather dressing as an opportunity to explore the richer hues, more luxuriant textures and thicker, cosier fabrics. Don’t be weighed down by the thought of refreshing your wardrobe with weather-appropriate knits - read on for our top six tips about mastering winter dressing.

Layering pieces might seem like a mundane reality of winter, but your base layers can be anything but basic. Invest in simple, easy essentials that will not only provide a stylish base to your knitwear, but work equally well alone. A roll neck in a number of different colours like navy or grey is a classic base for winter dressing. Worn with tailored trousers, it will fast become a work wear essential. Our Sudbury Stretch Polo Neck, in navy or black, pairs perfectly with all everyday separates.

Ribbed knits, super soft scarves and boiled wool coats are some of our favourite textures to make our winter wardrobe feel cosy. But nothing says luxury like velvet. Super soft and rich, a touch of velvet can add glamour and a feeling of indulgence to any outfit. Pair our Pleated Plisse Velvet Skirt with a simple roll neck top and flats for an office-appropriate approach to winter texture, or take it out during party season with a black camisole. In deep navy, the Aspen Reversible Faux Shearling Coat has a rich velvet trim and lining which can be worn as the inside lining for warmth, or on show as a glamorous finish to your evening wear.

There’s a lot to love about the colder weather: brown leaves, a morning frost and those atmospheric early sunsets. Visually, it doesn’t get better than an idyllic winter scene, so why not channel that beauty in your wardrobe? Rich oranges reminiscent of bonfire night, forest greens and a Bordeaux red (to be matched to a glass of your other favourite red) are all versatile colours that can be incorporated into your winter wardrobe. Our Melody Mohair Jumper in paprika red is a bold nod to those autumnal leaves, but for a perfect fusion of all your favourite autumnal shades, our Highland Floral Tassel Blouse blends the rich hues of orange, navy and burgundy.

As the most important piece of cold-weather armour in your wardrobe, your winter coat should be a style that you’ll love slipping on day after day. Rather than playing it safe, try a patterned coat to add interest to your everyday winter style. A timeless print such as a check will inject some colour into your cold-weather wardrobe, but will continue to have a place there season after season. Continuing our love of autumnal hues, the forest-green palette of our Mercury Checked Coat will incorporate some print into your wardrobe, but is versatile enough to complement almost every outfit. Alternatively you can experiment with your prints in our Pagan Weave Coating. Our colour of the season Paprika Red is mixed with navy in an intricately woven jacquard. The thick coatigan will add interest to a monochromatic outfit.

Party season is a marathon, not a sprint. From after work drinks, festive dinners and every celebration in between, you’re often left with little or no time to change your outfit after work. Pick pieces that you can weave into your everyday wardrobe that will look just as glamorous with a few subtle changes. Grab transitional skirts, blouses and dresses that you can update by peeling off a jumper or swapping weather-appropriate boots for heels. The Highland Floral Ruffle Skirt is just that piece. For day, pair the frilled floral midi skirt with an oversized jumper and trainers or flat boots. The layering will make for a cosy daytime look, but you can switch out your jumper for a delicate white blouse or a black camisole, adding a leather jacket for warmth.

Liz Lace Frilly Peplum Blouse

With day-to-night in mind, swap your LBD for evening separates to mix up your style. An all-black outfit with texture is a classic evening look, and whether it’s date night or after work drinks, a lace blouse is a classic. We’re giving gothic lace a contemporary update with our Liz Lace Frilly Peplum Blouse, where sport accents such as an exposed metal zip with ring pull add interest to a traditional style. Another date night hit is the Flora Mesh Peplum Top, where a floral pattern on slightly sheer mesh combines with a frilled peplum and pom pom trim to make for a highly feminine separate.
