Christmas is on the horizon, bringing with it Edinburgh’s famous Christmas market after a two-year hiatus. Running from November to January, the Christmas market at East Princes Street Gardens offers no shortage of things to see and do this festive season. Whether you’re keen to enjoy panoramic views of the capital from the top of the big wheel, spin around on a charming carousel or simply enjoy a glass of mulled wine and a hot crepe while browsing the stalls, this market truly showcases its festive glory.

Practice your pirouettes

Whether you can skate like Torvill and Dean, or you’re more of a Bambi on ice, a visit to the National History Museum’s Ice Rink is a must this festive season. Nestled in front of the iconic South Kensington museum, the spectacular rink is surrounded by thousands of twinkling fairy lights and a dazzling Christmas tree. Easily one of the most enchanting places to pirouette on the ice in the capital, the ice rink was made for festive date nights and family outings. Sadly, after 16 years of skating fun, the space will soon be transformed into a biodiversity hub as part of the museum’s Urban Nature Project so will not return in 2022. So go grab your skates and practice your pirouettes!
